Legislative compliance

Research shows that many building and construction companies still believe that once they hand over waste to a skip hire company they are no longer responsible for it.

This is not the case. Although you will have partially discharged your Duty of Care, the onus and ultimate responsibility is still on you to ensure that your waste is handled correctly on site, at the collection stage, in transit and eventually with disposal. In fact, if you or your skip hire company do not have the necessary documentation at every stage you could end up in prison, or at the very least with a hefty fine.

So what should you be looking out for?

  • You need to make sure that the waste carrier has the correct (and up to date) licence for the type of waste collected.
  • Even when the waste has left the site you need to make sure that it is handled correctly with appropriate documentation at the transfer station.
  • If your waste goes to landfill, it is your responsibility to ensure that the landfill site has the correct licence to accept the waste.

There is a safer and simpler solution.
